The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Many of you readers had to read a book (or two) over the summer. For some of you, one of those books was The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. So, I decided to read it as well. This book is about a young boy named Bruno, who is growing up during a tough time. Many of you would call it the Holocaust or World War II.
When Bruno's father is selected to run one of the concentration camps, he accepts, and the whole family moves out with him. But the only problem is that Bruno hates this new house, and so does his older sister Gretel, but she is a hopeless case. So one day, Bruno decides to go on an adventure and walks down to the edge of the fence until he can no longer see his house. Then he stumbles across a boy on the other side of the fence. This boy was wearing the striped pajamas that everyone elese on that side of the fence wore. So Bruno decided to talk to this boy. Turns out his name was Schmuel. Bruno didn't understand why he wasn't allowed on that side of the fence. No one would tell him. There is nothing worse for a boy than having no idea what is really going on...
This book is a heartwarming tale with a life-changing ending. If you have a choice to read this book or another, choose this one. But you must have a good understanding of the Holocaust to read it. Everyone who I have asked their opinion on this book says that they loved it and if they had to rate it on a one to ten scale, they would give it either a nine or a ten. This book is a MUST read for those of you who enjoy reading about history, but in a more exciting way.
